Water Quality & Environmental Protection
Water quality is one of the most important issues for an island of people who also live over their only source of freshwater. The Town should work diligently to protect our bays and harbors as well as our sole-source aquifer, our only source of drinking water. Council District 2 is lucky enough to cover a large area of diverse land uses and habitat: estuarine habitats, State preserved forests, farmland, neighborhoods, and retail areas, among others. We need to protect what we have.
waste management is an issue for every community around the world and
Brookhaven does NOT lead the charge in dealing with this. We need to look at other Towns in the country
and other first world governments to change our practices. The Town needs to work with the State
Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to begin dealing with this
holistically across the state,
if not the nation. If elected, I will work to partner with the County to begin reducing waste at the source and considering
other options, such as food waste composting and multi-stream recycling.
If elected, I will work with residents, the Town, and other governments to protect our water through upgrades to water treatment and seeking out polluters. I will attract local, state, and federal money to the area to purchase parkland and improve Brookhaven for all who live, work, and visit here. After 11 years working to preserve the environment on Long Island, I have the connections, knowledge, and resources to make a huge impact in the health and well-being of the water we swim in, the air we breathe, and the land we walk. Please vote for me on November 5th.
